Turning against your own kind.
Disturbing.

Mazda dealership has their head up their ass again and gave it back to me saying they couldn't figure out what's causing the jerkiness and idle issue...after charging me for service that didn't fix anything. Pops and I checked for vacuum leaks, replaced PCV, and ran the ecu for codes. No leads and nothing has solved the issue. Basically fed up with a car that was bought for too much for the supposed peace of mind that it'd be trouble-free.

Booo!!!!!!! Kill all the Miatas!!!
That sucks man.

Not all the Miatas, just mine. It's a cursed lemon that needs to be put out of its misery.

Think of it this way. Killing the MX-5/Miata will:
1. Make them rise up in value (for those who got spared).
2. Make much more answers available to your brand new car choices = more diversity.
3. Make dahater happy (now I know the story, nvm).
4. ???
5. Profit.

2002 NB.

How many miles/km? What did you try so far except for the PCV valve, vacuum leak and ecu check?

65,666 miles. Checked crank angle sensor connector and tightened all vacuum line clamps. It acted up like this a year ago and it took Mazda engineers in CA to figure out a fix. However, the local Mazda dealer has "lost" the paperwork involving that solution. I had a local winning Spec Miata shop in the past try to solve the problem by swapping over every engine-related sensor with the shop's ace race car, that didn't fix the bucking and idle problems either.

Have you checked the timing? You could be off a little bit maybe. I think I remember you posting about your issues a while ago and you swapped everything out. Sucks that you are having issues with it still. Oh could it be an issue with your VVT?

Might check timing tomorrow after moving into college, that could be a suspect.

If you haven't had the cam cover off ever make sure you have a new gasket and a tube of RTV for the corners. You need 19 teeth in between the cogs. It is pretty easy to check really. Also taking the cam cover off is the easiest way to positively verify timing.

Have you cleaned the EGR valve and the air inlet of it (a small hole in the intake manifold)? They tend to get gummed up. Remove the whole intake manifold and clean it properly. Check your spark plugs on how they are burning up, check the spark plug wires (make sure they are NGKs also) by putting water on them while the engine is started. If it stumbles, change them. It could be the coil pack too, get it tested. When the engine stumbles, spray anything that is electrical with WD40, one by one. It will eliminate humidity and might help pinpointing the issue. LAST LAST thing would be the Idle screw right on the side of the throttle body. Was it tempered with? They say everywhere, not to touch it, but if you follow the procedure on how to adjust it it might fix it.

How old are the plugs? Factory style plugs? Whats the gap? Those things have egr?
Kill all miatas!!

ok this will sound elementary but did you clean your maf? I heard of a guy who bought a K&N filter, which lead to filter oil getting on the maf and for 3 years he had idle and throttle issues and no one knew why. If you haven't already, spray it down with sensor cleaner and see if it helps.
Also, I don't know if the 2002s have any "learned memory" on the PCM but you could try unhooking your battery with your headlights turned on, which will drain your PCM. Then after you hook up your battery and turn your car on, let it idle for a minute or two and see if that makes a difference in the way it drives.
I'm no mechanic but when I hear of mysterious throttle issues arising that's what I'll usually suggest.
